Research conducted at the Collegium of World Economy focuses on:
international aspects of the functioning of domestic economies, regions, industries and enterprises, and the aspects of international integration, including, in particular, the EU issues. Research that can be classified into the first thematic group concentrates on Poland’s international competitiveness and the innovativeness of Polish economy. Nevertheless, studies on the economies of Germany, the Baltic States, the countries of both Americas and the countries of East Asia also significantly contribute to the research output of the Collegium staff. In addition to the issues, as characterized above, which form the core of the Collegium research activities, the staff also study other topics that are of current interest and importance to the competitiveness of economies and enterprises.
The research programme of the Collegium of World Economy for 2017–2025 is entitled:
“Changes in the World Economy and Competitiveness of Economies, Regions and Enterprises”
Main directions of this research programme are as follows:
- New phenomena in the world economy and their implications for Poland (including: new economic centres of the world, globalisation/glocalisation; global value chains; international migrations; trade arrangements; sharing economy; development of information technologies; international expansion of enterprises; the use of the Internet).
- Integration and disintegration processes in the world economy (including: structural changes in the EU, Poland in the European Union, Asian integration).
- Smart, sustainable and inclusive socio-economic development in the context of globalising markets (including: digitalisation, ICT, inclusivity, energy, environment, fourth industrial revolution).
- Determinants of the international competitiveness of economies, regions, branches, industries and enterprises (including: institutions; human capital, financial capital, innovations, foreign trade, direct investments, technology transfer, international entrepreneurship, internationalisation and de-internationalisation of enterprises, location competitiveness, urbanisation, business models, strategies of enterprises in international business, cultural contexts of the international cooperation of enterprises, new phenomena in marketing, consumer on the global market).
- Economic sciences for socio-economic policy (including: new industrial policy, innovative policy, financial policy, international economic policy, economic policy of the European Union and euro area countries).
