Thomas Apolte is professor of political economy at the University of Münster, Germany and research professor at SGH Warsaw School of Economics. He received his PhD in economics at the University of Duisburg, Germany.
From 2000 to 2010, he was professor of economics and public policy at the University of Münster, where he has been professor of political economy since then. He held visiting positions at Brigham Young University, Provo, UT, USA, the Center for Study of Public Choice at the George Mason University in Fairfax, VA, USA, West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV, USA, as well as at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland.
His research interests are in the fields of political economy, public choice, and comparative economics, in particular the political economy of democracy and autocracy, peace and conflict economics, the political economy of revolutions, and populism. Among others, he has written four books as well as many articles in journals, such as Journal of Comparative Economics, Public Choice, European Journal of Political Economy, Economics of Transition, and Defence and Peace Economics. He has also written a number of newspaper articles.
