The regular offer of the Department for students of the Warsaw School of Economics (SGH) includes eight courses in financial, tax, and economic law, conducted within both bachelor's and master's studies, available in full-time and weekend modes.

The Department staff also conduct doctoral, master’s, and bachelor’s seminars.
The courses conducted by our Department are part of the so-called “tax advisor path,” after completing which students are exempted from part of the professional exam for tax advisors.

FINANCIAL AND TAX LAW

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the principles and mechanisms of financial law. It covers regulations on public financial flows - acquisition, management (including planning), and expenditure of public funds, the functioning of the social security system, and the basic institutions of banking law. Students will learn about the creation and functioning of the public finance regulatory system, the relationships between public law institutions in the public finance sector, and the desired and actual behavior of the recipients of these regulations. The course also covers the organization of the tax administration, the structure of the tax system in Poland, as well as selected taxes (local taxes, agricultural tax, forest tax, tax on civil law transactions), and public fees and contributions. The detailed scope of tax law constructs discussed is determined by an agreement with the State Examination Commission for Tax Advisory.

BUSINESS LAW

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the principles of business law, which regulates the status of entrepreneurs and their relationships with contractors, with particular attention to conducting business in the context of the EU single market. Students will understand the role of law in the economy and learn the legal foundations for undertaking and conducting business activities, legal forms of business operations, types of commercial transactions conducted by entrepreneurs, principles of resolving business disputes, and the legal conditions of state influence on the economy.
The additional goal is to demonstrate the legal security of business operations and ways to resolve legal issues encountered by entrepreneurs (based on case studies - changing the legal form by the entrepreneur, setting contract terms, court economic proceedings, bankruptcy proceedings).

CIVIL LAW

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the principles of civil law, the basics of making legally binding declarations of will, forms of legal acts, and the effects of defective declarations of will. Students will learn the full characteristics of the civil law relationship: its sources, subjects, and object. They will also become acquainted with the rules governing civil law transactions, including the ability to act through third parties, terms, and effects of the statute of limitations. In terms of property law, students will learn ways to protect property rights, use limited property rights, especially such as a mortgage or pledge to secure receivables. The course aims to teach students to distinguish between contractual and tort liability, the premises of both liability regimes, and the principles of bearing this responsibility. An additional goal is to familiarize students with selected types of named contracts in the Polish Civil Code and to present the principles of statutory and testamentary inheritance.
