Research carried out by employees of the Department of Economic Theory

The research subject of the Department of Economic Theory covers a range of topics broadly related to economics and finance. In particular, among the research interests of the Department’s researchers are: development economics, industrial policy as a variant of growth policy, de-growth, the role of the state in the economy, heterodox economics, evolutionary economics, post-Keynesianism, history of economic thought, national budget, the impact of fiscal and monetary policy on the rate of economic growth, central bank monetary policy, macroeconomic stabilization policy, determinants of economic growth; contemporary trends in macroeconomic theory, transformation of the economic system in Central and Eastern European countries, financing and organization of the health care system, determinants and measurement of efficiency in health care, resilience of the health care system and institutions, enterprise on the health market.

The Department’s employees disseminate the research results obtained by publishing articles and books, participating in conferences and seminars, and enriching the content of teaching courses at the Warsaw School of Economics and at foreign universities within the framework of the Erasmus + and CEEPUS programmes.

The research in which the Department’s researchers participate often brings together scientists from different Polish and foreign research and scientific institutions.

Mazovia as an accelerator of global enterprises

The project ‘Mazovia as an accelerator of global enterprises’ is financed by the National Centre for Research and Development as part of the strategic research and development programme ‘Social and economic development of Poland under conditions of globalising markets’ GOSPOSTRATEG.

The project manager is Prof. Marcin Wojtysiak-Kotlarski ( Collegium of Management and Finance). The Department of Economic Theory is represented in the study by PhD Ewa Kosycarz and PhD Adam Rogoda.

Staff management of healthcare providers during the COVID-19 pandemic

The study ‘Staff management of healthcare providers during the COVID-19 pandemic’ was carried out between 2020 and 2021.

Study leadership team: PhD Ewa Kosycarz and PhD Anna Krejner-Nowecka (College of Management and Finance).

The study involved 515 respondents.

Health system efficiency

The research is led by PhD Ewa Kosycarz.

Research team: Dr Maria Ekes (College of Economic Analysis), Dr Monika Dędys (College of Economic Analysis) and prof. Dominika Wranik (Dalhousie University, Canada).

The efficiency research focused on the determinants and measurement of the efficiency of regions (voivodeships). The research has resulted in three publications to date:

SOCIAL, ECONOMIC AND GEOPOLITICAL EFFECTS OF THE WAR IN UKRAINE

The directors of the study “Social, economic and geopolitical effects of the war in Ukraine” are Prof. Dorota Niedziolka, and Prof. M. Próchniak. Eighteen researchers are participating in the study. The Department of Economic Theory is represented by Dr. Dariusz Malinowski, who prepared a report within the framework of the study: “The impact of the war in Ukraine on the state of public finances of Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Eurozone countries.”

A presentation of the results of the entire study is available in the monograph “Social, Economic and Geopolitical Effects of the War in Ukraine,” published by the SGH Publishing Office (2023).
