- 18.11.2021 – SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT IN THE ERA OF DIGITAL ECONOMY (PL)
Established epistemology traces back to the seventeenth-century philosopher Descartes, but its achievements most fully manifested in the 20th century, during the era of emerging interdisciplinary sciences, including, for example, through the theory of grammar developed by Chomsky. As can be observed, digitalization is nothing more than the creation of a universal language and its distribution channels, which are the result of innovative achievements that respond to social needs in an era of “constant change,” as Heraclitus noted over 2,500 years ago.
Undoubtedly, the digital economy has transformed the world, including the way companies operate. Additionally, in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, digitalization accelerated and introduced new solutions that have become, or will become, permanent fixtures, providing conveniences, simplifications, and often reducing the operating costs of enterprises as well as the socio-environmental costs of the economy. Thus, widespread mobile technologies have become not only tools for work, relaxation, or communication but have also provided a wide range of possibilities for influencing potential recipients through the messages they create.
According to the definition, sustainable development is a multidimensional form of meeting current needs with a focus on protecting such opportunities for future generations, as its implementation aims not only to maintain the status quo but also to restore any imbalance related to the lack of proper environmental protection or existing social inequalities. The 21st-century enterprise expected by the concept of sustainable development is primarily a value-driven enterprise that, besides economic goals, thanks to new tools and opportunities, more fully serves to build multi-level co-responsibility. Such an enterprise should act and encourage the creation of various forms of coexistence and harmony on many levels of biodiversity.
Sustainable development is therefore not only a challenge but also a kind of compulsion for proper implementation of its ideas, far from abuse or the potential for manipulation. Thus, digitalization and the languages it creates are merely tools, and it is up to us how and for what purposes they will be used.
The purpose of the conference was to disseminate knowledge and initiate a nationwide discussion on the issues of sustainable business development in the era of the digital economy.
Specific objectives were:
- Presentation of research results conducted at KNoP from 2019-2022 titled “The Enterprise in the Face of Sustainable Development Requirements.”
- Exchange of experiences within the Polish academic community on the aforementioned issues.
- Seeking common research areas, with a focus on sustainable business development in the era of the digital economy on a collegial, intercollegial, and national level.
Our long-term vision is to create an inter-university research network, and we warmly invite all interested parties to join us now.
