Consumer Surveys have been conducted by IRG quarterly since 1990, and as of the beginning of 1996 the survey questionnaire has been attuned with the consumer test applied in the European Union states. The survey includes permanent questions (originating from the EU questionnaire) concerning the financial standing of households, costs of living, changes in prices, forecasted savings, fear of unemployment, assessments of the general economic situation of the country. Additionally, special questions are included that refer to the current economic phenomena important from the point of view of consumers. Questions included in the survey concern assessments of the current situation of households and forecasts for the future. On the grounds of collected answers a synthetic indicator of the situation of consumers is calculated, which is an arithmetic mean of balances of: assessment of future financial situation, assessment of future general economic situation, expected change in the level of unemployment with a negative sign, assessment of the future tendency to saving.
