For almost 20 years now, the European Union has been exposed to multiple crises, including the eurozone and migration crises, Brexit, the war in Ukraine, and an increasingly instable geopolitical environment. Simultaneously, the EU faces severe problems with its competitiveness. This has been highlighted in a report on the economic state of the EU issued by Mario Draghi on September 9, 2024, which outlined gloomy prospects for the EU without a change of course.
Against this background, the conference will discuss the most urgent challenges of the EU’s economy and remedies to boost its competitiveness in an environment characterized by on-going geopolitical tensions, uncertainties on the role of the USA under the presidency of Donald Trump and ecological challenges, which shake the old certainties of uninterrupted trade, offshoring, just-in-time logistics, historically low defence spending and cheap raw materials. It will do so mainly, but not exclusively, from Polish and German perspectives.
