The aim of this study is to assess the condition of the banking sector in Poland in comparison to other countries in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) after the shock caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The research will be conducted using the methodology of comparative studies supported by quantitative tools.
The analyses will help to answer the following questions:
- How did the crisis caused by the pandemic affect the banking sector, both directly and indirectly?
- What measures in the field of anti-crisis policy, including, in particular, monetary policy and financial sector supervision, implemented in CEE countries in 2020 influenced the banking sector?
- How did the liquidity and financial condition of banks in CEE countries change in 2020?
- What changes in the financing of the real economy by the banking sector occurred in individual CEE countries throughout the pandemic?
- What are the similarities and differences in the reaction of banking sectors across CEE countries to the COVID-19 shock, and what are the reasons for these discrepancies?
- What will be the long-term effects of the pandemic for the banking sector in the CEE countries?
