Nature-3B: Including Nature in decision making of central Banks, investment Benchmarks & Bond issuers

EU lawmakers have made major strides in driving policies that will protect and restore nature and biodiversity in Europe. The finance sector has a vital role to play in meeting these commitments. In line with the European Green Deal priorities and in particular with the EU biodiversity strategy for 2030, this project responds to the Horizon call for proposals that will help unlock financial flows needed for reversing biodiversity loss and contribute to mainstreaming biodiversity, ecosystem services and natural capital in the economy and financial system. The proposal’s research and outreach strive to generate tools which are expected to enable investors to devote assets worth €10 billion to Nature Protection Benchmarks (NPB) within 3 years after the project and allow for €30 billion issuance in Nature Protecting Bonds (NPB) over the same time frame. The timing is excellent due to the imminent implementation of the European Regulation on European Green Bond (EuGB) on December 21st, 2024. The research team is led by Andreas Hoepner, co-inventor of EU ParisAligned Benchmarks (backed by €116 billion1 in investment to date) and Marianne Haahr, co-creator of ENCORE Tool.

The Nature-3B project has received funding from the Horizon Europe Programme under Grant Agreement no. 101182455.
