- SGH at the Economic Forum 2023
On September 5-7, 2023, Karpacz hosted the XXXII Economic Forum – the most important and largest meeting of representatives of economic circles in Central and Eastern Europe in this part of the continent. The SGH Warsaw School of Economics was the major merits-related partner of the event.
The Forum was inaugurated on September 5 with the presentation of the sixth edition of the SGH and Economic Forum 2023 Report, a comprehensive study prepared by SGH experts. It is one of the most comprehensive publications on the current economic situation in Poland and the CEE region. That year’s special supplement to the Report was an analysis by the European Investment Bank (EIB), based on a unique survey.
The presentation of the Report took place on September 5, 2023 at noon at the Economic Forum.
“The SGH and Economic Forum Report is a publication that annually since 2018 summarizes the most important economic and social processes taking place in Poland and the countries of the Central and Eastern European region. This year’s Report consists of 12 substantive chapters authored by dozens of SGH experts and a special supplement by the European Investment Bank. We are advised that our expert reports have for years enjoyed recognition among decision-makers and the business community. Interest in our analyses is gaining a wider reach; this is confirmed by our cooperation with the EIB on this year’s publication. SGH aims to initiate debate around the CEE region in a comparative perspective,” says SGH rector Piotr Wachowiak, PhD, SGH Professor.
Among the major themes covered in this year’s Report are the economic growth and development trajectories of the countries in our region. Factors affecting economic development are also the subject of analysis, including the decline in investment, which worries researchers, inflation, reaching for renewable energy sources and the pursuit of sustainable development.

- SGH at the Economic Forum 2022
On Tuesday, September 6th, a group of the experts from the SGH Warsaw School of Economics made a public presentation of their work on the fifth edition of the SGH and Economic Forum Report. This report was intended to enable business leaders, members of government as well as representatives of the local administration and the third sector to take the most effective decisions in times of enormous global turbulence caused first by the COVID-19 pandemic and afterwards, from February 24th, 2022, by the war in Ukraine and related crises.
The report outlines some key issues and challenges the economies of Central and Eastern European countries, including Poland have been facing since. The text of the study is divided into 11 chapters discussing such issues as inflation, economic growth, unemployment, housing availability or the automotive energy transition. The report is a comprehensive overview that identifies key areas related to the socio-economic development of Poland and the CEE region, presenting both a macro perspective and an insight into the problems of specific sectors such as trade, automotive, energy, healthcare and pharmaceuticals.
The wide range of issues covered and the insightfulness of the analyses presented in the Report make this publication one of the most important national studies on the economic and social situation in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe.
