This double degree program is available to full-time master students of SGH and NOVASBE within:
- Zarządzanie (Management) at SGH and
- Management at NOVASBE.

Universidade NOVA de Lisboa was founded in 1973 and is the youngest public University in Lisbon metropolitan area, with teaching units in Lisbon, Almada, Oeiras and in Cascais (NOVASBE campus).
The Nova School of Business and Economics (NOVASBE) is the most prestigious Business School in Portugal and a leading Business School in Europe; it is the faculty of economic and management sciences of Nova. Nova SBE, as well as SGH, belongs to the CEMS and co-creates our very important product which is the CEMS MIM. SGH was the promoter of entry of NOVA into CEMS alliance in 2007. Since several years NOVA admits our students within the Erasmus exchange (annual replacement of 10 people, including five in the CEMS).
- Program structure
- The intended period of study for the double degree programme shall be two years (4 semesters).
- Double degree students will spend their first year at the home institution, the second year at the host institution.
- Full information should be provided to the host institution on the courses that the participants have taken at their home institution and vice versa.
- Double degree students shall have access to courses and enjoy the same rights and privileges and be subject to the same rules and regulations as the regular graduate students in the corresponding Masters study track of the host institution.
- Students shall register at the host institution only for the parts of the study programme that will be carried out under the responsibility of the host Institution.

- MASTER THESIS / WORK PROJECT
- In addition to the mandatory coursework at both institutions, as set forth in the agreement, the double degree student is required to write a Master Thesis (Work Project equivalent to NOVASBE). The Master Thesis is worth 20 ECTS at SGH and the Work Project is worth 30 ECTS at NOVASBE. The partner institutions assure the legal and organisational pre-conditions required for enabling the double degree students to start with the Master Thesis (Work Project) in their second study year.
- The Master Thesis shall be supervised by one supervisor and marked (graded) by a reviewer. The double degree students shall choose one supervisor from either institution, the reviewer will be selected from the partner institution respectively. The language of the Masters Thesis is English.
- Part of the completion of the Masters Thesis is a defence of the thesis. Members of the host institution are invited to attend the defence. In preparation of the defence the double degree student has to write a thesis summary in English. The defence will be conducted in English.
- The management process of the preparation of the Masters Thesis (Work Project) should meet all the legal and academic constraints of the institution at which a student writes and defends the Masters Thesis (Work Project).
- CONDITIONS FOR OBTAINING THE DOUBLE DEGREE
- The double degree shall only be awarded after the student has completed the program by fulfilling the following requirements:
- DD students from NOVASBE:
- 1st year at NOVASBE: the award of at least 57 ECTS credit points equivalent to the regulations constituted in this agreement,
- 2nd year at SGH: the award of at least 23 ECTS for the courses from the Major “Management”, equivalent to the regulations constituted in this agreement and completion of a Work Project (42 ECTS) or Master Thesis (20 ECTS) plus at least 21 ECTS Electives under the terms and conditions delineated in this agreement
- DD students from SGH:
- 1st year at SGH: the award of at least 46,5 ECTS credit points for courses from the Major “Management” equivalent to the regulations constituted in this agreement,
- 2nd year at NOVASBE: the award of at least 54 ECTS for courses from the Major “Management”, equivalent to the regulations constituted in this agreement and completion of a Masters Thesis (20 ECTS) or a Work Project (42 ECTS) under the terms and conditions delineated in this agreement
- DD students from NOVASBE:
- The double degree student shall be awarded both the academic degree: of the home institution and the corresponding academic degree of the host institution. Upon completion of the double degree program requirements, the student shall receive:
- two diploma certificates,
- two grade transcripts and,
- two diploma supplements.
- Each institution shall issue only the certificate and corresponding transcripts of grades for the part of the double degree it is accountable for. The diploma supplement shall provide detailed information on the nature, regulations and credit transfer mechanisms of the double degree program.
- The double degree shall only be awarded after the student has completed the program by fulfilling the following requirements:
- Admission criteria
- Candidates for the double degree program are to be selected by their home institution according to the selection criteria jointly defined and agreed upon by SGH and NOVASBE.
- Due to the higher workload compared to the ordinary Masters’ study tracks at the partner institutions, only highly qualified students shall be selected for the double degree program.
- Each institution has the right to admit up to 5 students per year to the double degree program, unless this number is varied by a mutual and written attachment to this agreement.
- The host institution shall be granted access to any written application documents and protocols of selection procedures for the double degree program. The host institution has the right to send a representative with advisory status to selection interviews of the home institution for the double degree program. Joint selection interviews by both the home institution and host institution are encouraged.
- The double degree candidates must satisfy all admission requirements of the host institution, including language proficiency requirements. All double degree candidates must provide evidence of a satisfactory level of language proficiency according to the requirements of the Common European Framework (CEF). Each institution reserves the right to require double degree candidates to complete the standard enrolment documents and to provide the results of any required entrance examinations. The host institution has the right to not accept a double degree candidate from the home institution for academic rationales or any other substantial reasons.
- According to the Rules and Regulations of selection for international programs and exchanges at SGH, all students accepted for double diploma programs are not allowed to apply for any other exchange or program that involves mobility abroad in the given academic year. It especially refers to Erasmus, PIM and bilateral exchanges and international programs like CEMS MIM.

Admission Requirements (upon application)
- In order to be admitted into the International Master’s program in Management/Finance, candidates must cumulatively possess the following in addition to the general admission requirements established for the Regular degree programs:
- Language skills:
- English language at minimum C1 level (or as mother tongue);
- Second language and a third (if English is not the mother tongue) at minimum B1 level (or mother tongue);
- Internationalization experience:
- Have completed a 10-week international internship outside of Portugal and outside of the country of nationality of the student, between completion of the Bachelor’s degree and the initiation of the Master’s Program.
- Language skills:
- All candidates applying to an International graduate program who do not meet the eligibility requirements by the application deadline will automatically be considered for the Regular graduate program. Admitted candidates may later change their degree to the International program upon fulfilment of the eligibility requirements indicated previously or the requirements stated below.
- Application to International Master’s during the program
- During the program, students may request a change of degree at the appropriate time as long as this occurs before the start of the work project semester (final semester). No requests will be permitted beyond this period.
- For students who wish to change to the International graduate program, the following eligibility requirements are necessary:
- Language skills:
- Second language and a third (if English is not the mother tongue) at minimum B1 level (or mother tongue);
- Internationalization experience:
- International Exchange Semester, during the Master’s program, outside Portugal and outside the country where the Bachelor’s degree was obtained OR
- Enrolment on CEMS or Double Degree OR
- Acceptance in a 10-week international internship, during the Master’s program, outside of Portugal, and outside of the country of nationality of the student.

- A Selection Committee will assess all applications and make the selection decisions (applicants may be called for interviews).
